Sakset fra Yahoo Answers:"My bike is practically new,its got 3979 kilometers(about 2500 miles) it has not been run hard nor in heavy traffic, but when i gas it up hard at around 5000rpm it feels like the clutch is slipping, its hard to believe because its a new bike, it feels as if it releases an angry burst of power around 5k-7k rpm. I use motul full synthetic double esther factory line motorcycle oil, its the best of the best oil i can get."
Sakset fra r1-forum.com:"Not necessarily true. Full synthetic oil is good for reducing friction, but it does not suspend particals as well as the old dino oil. If you use fully synthetic oil you will notice alot of times when you change it it comes out cleaner. I use semi-synthetic because it gives me the best of both worlds. I can have a cleaner engine and one that has less friction. I work for Volvo as a mechanic and see cars frequently with 600,000 miles plus, and they run on mineral oil. I also see Volvo's that use fully synthetic oil and when they begin to have high miles they start to sludge because fully synthetic oil does not clean as well. Now there may be other factors such as oil change intervals etc. , but this is just what I've experienced in 15 years of working on cars. Can you explain why you believe fully synthetic is better than semi?"

Now I use a motorcycle specific oil, petroleum based so far, though I will probably switch to a synthetic blend at some point. I did use the cheap automotive oil for the last 25 years I've been riding without ever experiencing an oil related failure. Not that this proves anything, of course. The only time I tried using a pure synthetic oil was in my old 650. I didn't get out of the driveway before the clutch started slipping. Took a couple of oil changes with petroleum based oil to get back to normal. "
